They all turned to see the bus slowly making it's way up the hill, exhaust rolling up behind it in the chilly morning air. Faith and Amy got into line followed by Shiloh. Shannon walked over to her. "So you wanna be like me huh?" Shiloh looked down at her books again.Shannon looked at the approaching bus then back at Shiloh. "We'll you're doing it all wrong, see I've got three books and you've got four, let me help you get it right."She shifted her books to her left arm and grabbed the top book off Shiloh's stack. "See this way you don't have to carry so much." Shiloh looked up at her. "I need my math book." Shannon took a step towards the fenced in yard behind the bus stop. "No, you said you wanna be like me." Shiloh took a step towards her. "Please give me my book." Shannon walked over to the fence. "You want it," she swung her arm back and threw the book high over the fence. "Go get it!"Shiloh's shoulders slumped. Shannon turned towards Bev. "See, she's just like me now." Bev laughed. "Twins I tell you." Faith looked at Shiloh, feeling compassion for her. Shiloh walked over to the fence and looked up at the tall wooden slats.Faith quickly put her back pack down and ran over to the fence. Shiloh looked up at her with tears starting to form in her eyes. Looking up Faith put her hand on one of the old, weathered boards. "don't worry, I'll get your book for you Shiloh." She looked up with hopeful eyes.Faith took a couple of steps back, then with a quick step and a jump she grabbed for the top of the fence. Grasping the fence with both hands, she pulled herself up and swung a leg over.Looking down into the yard she could see the book and she jumped down landing next to it. "Heads up Shiloh, I've gotta toss the book back over. "Okay," came the reply from the other side. Faith carefully picked the book up and closing it, she gently tossed it over like a frisbee. "Got it?" "Yep." answered Shiloh's grateful voice. "Bus is pulling up."Faith jumped the fence again. "I'm coming." She pulled herself up and sat on top. Shannon stood there glaring at her. "Gizmo saves the day." Shiloh looked up at her gratefully. "Thanks Faith." She swung back down and jumped, landing next to her. "You're welcome, hope the book's okay." Shiloh nodded wiping tears out of her eyes. "It's fine." Faith smiled at her. "I needed my exercise this morning anyway."The bus door swung open and they quickly boarded. The bus driver, Ted, put his hand up to Faith. "You don't need to be playing on those fences young lady." "Sorry, I had to get a book." Ted lowered his hand with an inquisitive look. "All right."Faith made her way to the center of the bus and slid in next to Amy. "Sheesh, this is turning out to be some morning." Amy nodded. "Whada ya think Shannon's going to do?" Faith rubbed her nose. "I don't know but I think maybe we should tell somebody."Amy stole a glance towards the back of the bus where Shannon was sitting. "Yeah, we might get beat up for our efforts."
